T-Shirt Designs (Illustrator)

One unique medium I've worked with in creating original designs has been the printing of promotional t-shirts. Printing a design to a fabric backing poses specific challenges and requires design planning that works in favor of the medium. Limiting the number of colors, ensuring suitable line thickness, and determining the maximum allotment of usable space are all important considerations.

This 2025 t-shirt design was commissioned by the Rhodes College All Engineering Club (AEC). The design requirements were to develop a logo which represents all three disciplines of engineering–civil (red hard hat), mechanical (yellow gear) and electrical (blue center). The back-of-shirt graphic needed to promote several of the club's popular past projects along with keywords that define the club's spirit and excitement for engineering.

This 2025 t-shirt design was commissioned for the Rhodes College Annual Physcon event, hosted by SPS (Society of Physics Students). The design requirements were to advertise SPS with a dated logo and fun back-of-shirt graphic that would promote interest in the event. Because the design was intended to be printed at minimal expense, the color palette needed to be limited to just two colors.

2024 t-shirt design for the Rhodes College Annual Pumpkin Drop event, hosted by SPS (the Society of Physics Students). The design requirements were to advertise the pumpkin drop in a way that included the college's founder, Charles Edward Diehl, 'Leroy', the school's lynx mascot, SPS, the year and an element displaying a property of physics (Tesla coils with high-voltage electrical arcs). The color palette needed to be limited to just nine colors to help keep the cost of printing low.

Inspiration for the design came from an on-campus statue of Charles Edward Diehl, a t-shirt design from the previous year's event, and images of a lynx in action.
